│ What it does and how to use it! │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
NOTE: THIS PROGRAM SHOULD ONLY BE USED WITH SYNCHRONET 2.1 AND UP!
This program is quite possibly one of the best utilities written for
Synchronet so far. It is an address book for use with Internet E-mail,
QWK Netmail, and Fidonet NetMail. It should make the sysop's and
users' experience with NetMail much easier and faster. The following
is a list of features:
- The best feature about EASY ADDRESS is that the user will simply pick
the number of the address they want to send internet, QWK or fidonet mail
to from a list on their screen and their message will be automatically
addressed. There is no longer a need to constantly type in long internet
or fidonet addresses.
- Sysops using Fidonet<->Internet gateways can have the gateway address
automatically appended to the end of users internet addresses. EASY
ADDRESS automatically determines if the address is an internet address.
Therefore eliminating the need to highly modify the baja code, or explain
to a user that they need to address their internet messages to UUCP@1:1/31.
e.g. the user's internet address they are sending a message to with the
appended GUUCP address will look like:
gregory.campbell@f8047.n124.z1.fidonet.org @1:1/31
in the Synchroent To: field.
Note: SysOps using NetXpress (SynchUUCP) will have their NetMail messages
correctly addressed (without the gate address referred to above) and
SysOps with no internet access will be able to use EASY ADDRESS for
fidonet and QWK mail only.
Note: If you currently do not have internet E-mail on your system, enter
the address 1:1/31 for the GUUCP gateway, and you will have it
automatically. This is a GUUCP gate available to ALL fidonet systems.
Your users address will be of the form:
first.last@f[node]n[net]z[zone]p[point].fidonet.org
[point], [node], [net], and [zone] are your fidonet address.
- Each user has his/her individual address book, and the only limit on
the number of addresses is memory requirements. Users are warned if
there is not enough memory to add another address and EASY ADDRESS
will not lock the system if it runs out of memory.
- Users are able to add addresses (including a note about the address)
to their list, delete addresses from edit addresses and scan their
address book quickly and efficiently.
- Easy Address performs it's own maintenance and can tell when a user's
name has changed. If the user's name has changed (like a new user takes
an old slot) a new address file is automatically created for the new user.
- Easy Address has support for internet (NetXpress only) and fidonet
file attaches.
- There is an Online help screen for users. This explains what Easy
Address is, how to use it, and it shows them their personal fidonet,
internet and QWK addresses on your system.
- The sysop can customize the colors in Easy Address by changing the
Ctrl-A codes in the EASYCOLR.DAT file. See the file for documentation
on the colors. If you mess it up, just delete it and a new one will be
created with the default colors.
- SysOps may place their systems fidonet, internet and QWK addresses in
the EASYCOLR.DAT file so users will be shown their personal address.
- EASY ADDRESS will time out users if they run out of time on the BBS
while in the EASY ADDRESS program or if they drop carrier.
- EASY ADDRESS uses the XSDK 2.24 and therefore allows users to see
who is online while in Easy Address and send messages to other nodes.
- This program does not allow duplicate messages in the address list of a
user.
- EASY ADDRESS supports both ANSI and ASCII, reads user and SysOp
information from the XTRN.DAT file in the node directory, and creates
individual database files for each user in its own directory.
- Registered versions will not have all the UNREGISTERED flags, and will
show todays date and time where the UNREGISTERED prompt is.
To set up EASY ADDRESS follow the instructions given below. They include
setting up the the SCFG configuration, and modifying the BAJA source code
for each module that you will use EASY ADDRESS with.
NOTE: Easy Address requires BAJA.EXE to be in the EXEC directory
NOTE: If you are upgrading from version 1.0 see the file UPGRADE.DOC
1. Create a directory for EASY ADDRESS
e.g. mkdir c:\sbbs\xtrn\easyadd <ENTER>
2. Copy ALL of the archive files to this directory.
e.g. copy *.* c:\sbbs\xtrn\easyadd <ENTER>
3. Modify each of your BAJA source files as follows:
Replace the command MAIL_SEND_NETMAIL with:
EXEC_XTRN EASYADD
EXEC *EASY%#
and replace the command MAIL_SEND_NETFILE with:
EXEC_XTRN EASYADDF
EXEC *EASY%#
4. Compile the modified source files
e.g. BAJA DEFAULT.SRC <ENTER>
5. Go into SCFG->External Programs->External Programs and add two
external programs (EASYADD and EASYADD, see example below) to
your external program groups.
Note: The command line options must be in ORDER, and ALL five must be
present. The following explains the command line parameters, and can
be viewed by typing EASYADD without any parameters.
The required line parameters are:
1- %! (The full path to the exec directory)
2- EMAIL or FILE (use FILE for file attach option, otherwise use EMAIL)
3- Registration code (Use 000000 if unregistered)
4- Internet option (Full GUUCP address, SUUCP or NONE) Use SUUCP if you
have NetXpress
5- Time Zone value (e.g. TZ=CST6EDT)
e.g. EASYADD %! EMAIL 000000 1:1/31 TZ=CST6EDT
NOTE: You should set the TZ environmental variable to the difference
between local time and GMT. This is the same variable used by TICK
and many other bbs-related programs. For the Eastern time zone, it
would be set to TZ=EST5EDT. Central Time Zone is TZ=CST6EDT, and
Pacific is PST8EDT.
The following are example command lines used for EASY ADDRESS:
EMAIL option, UNREGISTERED, GUUCP gate address 1:1/31, and the
Central Time Zone
EASYADD %! EMAIL 000000 1:1/31 TZ=CST6EDT
EMAIL option, UNREGISTERED, no internet mail allowed and the
Eastern Time Zone
EASYADD %! EMAIL 000000 NONE TZ=EST5EDT
EMAIL option, UNREGISTERED, NetXpress (SynchUUCP) and
Pacific Time Zone
EASYADD %! EMAIL 000000 SUUCP TZ=PST8EDT
FILE attach option, UNREGISTERED, NetXpress (SynchUUCP) and
Pacific Time Zone
EASYADD %! FILE 000000 SUUCP TZ=PST8EDT
This is the EASYADD External Programand allows Easy Address to work
correctly when sending NetMail.
